Vegas Baby!!!

Andrew and I

Ok now for some work stuff!!!

We painted with shaving cream. The kids really enjoyed this. I let them create on their own and then they wrote their names, shapes, numbers, and letters!!

For our Body Unit we traced each other's bodies and then we labeled the body parts.

TGIO (Thank God It's Over) My Day That Is!!!

TGIO (Thank God It's Over) My Day That Is!!!

This is where I will be this weekend. VEGAS BABY

Today seemed to be a very challenging day for me as a teacher. Woke up in a great mood, well rested, cute outfit, with a diet coke in hand. Then one of my littles decided it would be awesome if he flushed his foot in the poop and pee infested toilet. Awesome! I am so thrilled he did this...

On a different note...we are working very hard on our Body unit and are looking forward to a awesome next week. Dr. Seuss here we come!

Till tomorrow...

What I Am Loving Wednesday

I am loving that I will be in bed "on-time" tonight. Last night I wasn't even home until after midnight. As a teacher this is a big No-No.

I am also loving that I get a mini-vacation this Saturday and I am heading to Bakersfield for a friends Birthday. Yes, I know...not the most happening place in California, but we make it GREAT!!!

I am also loving this website that I found by stalking

Lisa Leonard Designs

I am in love with these necklaces!!! I will take all of them thanks!

What I Am Loving Wednesday

1. Today I am loving that I had a wonder dinner with friends.

2. I am also loving that it is almost my bedtime. I am exhausted tonight.

Not sure if it was from my long meeting today or the few glasses of wine I drank at dinner!

Clean Teeth and Blue Water

This was one of our activities that we did today in class. We are learning about the ocean and fish so I thought they could pattern with snack fish crackers. They really had fun and as a special treat, they were allowed to eat their patterns. You can do this with anything really and they had so much fun. The "Wow" and "Really" that came from them was worth it. I typically don't let them eat the food they work/play with.

We also learned about the Dentist today. We first read the story, Going to the Dentist by Mercer Mayer.

. ref=sib_dp_pt.jpg

We then discussed what happens at the dentist and let me tell you they talked and talked about their trips to the dentist. I thought it would be fun to teach them about how we care for our teeth. So, we created our own mouths.
We used marshmallows as teeth.

Tomorrow the children will take the toothbrushes that I bought for them at Dollar Tree and brush their little teeth. They will get a kick out of this.

We also made some Oceans in Bottles. The kids enjoyed this also. They used shells, sand, water and blue food coloring. We just added all the ingredients to the bottle and Ta Da finished. The kids shook it up and off they went!

Lots of Love

My Valentine's Gift

Happy Valentine's Day to everyone!!

Now that's out of the what a day. We had a movie and party today in class and the kids handled themselves quite well.

We decorated our shoe boxes on Friday with white construction paper and then the children were able to glue, color and create their boxes any way that they saw suitable! Today we placed our Valentine's inside the boxes. We had homemade cupcakes and juice and we watched a Valentine's Day Movie. What a productive day;)

On a different note...A rule in my classroom is that no one is allowed to eat candy at all. Well today I put a small twix in my mouth and as I was chewing it Diego, a little boy in my class, looked at me and said," Teacher, we aren't allowed to eat candy in class. You better spit that out in the trash right away." I looked at him and followed his exact direction. Now should I have done that? Should I have allowed a five year old to command me to do something? I thought about it and I figured he was right. I really didn't need the twix bar anyways so he was doing me a favor and saving me those extra calories that I did not need!!! Needless to say... I should lead by example I guess :)-

Sunday not a Fun Day

I am getting no work done tonight. I am sitting in front of the computer, but I am so interested in the Grammy's this year. I have not even finished my lesson plan for the week yet:( guess I'll go in extra early tomorrow...

On a different note, I had the most amazing veggie soup for dinner...Holy Cow it was delicious!!! I think I could eat it every night!!! We have started to try to only eat organic in my house... not as difficult as I expected, but when you want a candy bar, difficult!!!

I will be starting my unit on health and nutrition this next week!! Very excited and hard at work getting everything together for it. Stay Tuned!!!!

All You Need Is Love Challenge Day 4

For Valentine's Day I {LOVE} to bake/cook... {share a recipe!}

Honestly I seldom bake and I do like to cook.

When I bake it is not a pretty sight.

One thing that I love to make is homemade spaghetti sauce from scratch. I am Italian so pasta sauce is very important to us!!!!!

I again need to be honest this happens only a few times a year, but I do love to make and eat it!!!!!

TGIO (Thank God It's Over) My Day That Is!!!

I am still at work, but my little's are napping. Thank God. We had a very hard day in Pre-Kinder today. It started out where their little brains would not wake up. They kept saying it was Tuesday and that we were in the month of January. We forgot how to pray and our pledge and we also forgot how to eat our snack. (screaming in my head at this point)
During snack one little boy took his muffin and crumbled it all over the table as another crumbled his all over the floor. (They cleaned up all that mess on their own, as they say..."Teacher Miss Muscarella is not our maid)
Then to turn around to one little one hitting another and at play time a little girl bending another friend's finger all the way back. (There goes that friendship)

And when did patterning become so hard for my class when on day one they mastered this concept...I am serious I almost fainted that more than half my class knew how to pattern. Today, we were back in August I think.

All I can say is Thank God It's Over...

Tomorrow should be a better day...I am hanging onto hope here...

All You Need Is Love Challenge Day 3

If I could travel anywhere this snowy February, I would {LOVE} to go...

New Orleans

Sea Shells and Ocean Bags

So today in class we completed a few ocean themed activities. For the first activity I found a song online called 5 Little Sea Shells. I then copied it onto a paper for the children to take home to their parents. I think it is very important that parents play a vital role in their child's education. This is an easy way for my parents to be involved with the activities that we complete in class. At the bottom of the paper I explained that they can sing the song with their children.

This is the worksheet that I created for the children to color and cut out. They then glued their shells to popsicle sticks.

This is the finished product. We then sang the song and they all took away the amount of shells that was asked!

For our second project we took a zip-lock bag, sand, a shell, shaving cream, and blue food coloring. The children placed the sand and shell inside the bag and then I placed the shaving cream and the blue food coloring inside and sealed it shut. The children then squished it all around making an Ocean in a Bag!!!

This was the finished project. Sorry it is blurry. The kids had so much fun doing this!!!

All You Need Is Love Challenge

All You Need is Love Challenge Day 1:

When I need some me time I {LOVE} to...

Read Magazines, go to Target and of course watch bad Reality TV!

Now presenting Sid and Lola

This is Sid, our new addition to our class. The Hermit Crab.

This is Lola. Our new Fish.
This is a sample of one student's Hermit Crab House.
Very Creative with the sun, flowers, and bumble bee!!!
This is my too cute bulletin board. (At least I think so) I hot glues shells, sponges and sand on the board.

Today I started my unit on the ocean. I have planned for this unit for months! I decided that I would try my hardest not to only do the things that I did in previous years and I have so far become sucessfull (at least in my lesson plans)!

Today was day one and we were greeted with two new friends.
We first read the story A House for Hermit Crab by Eric Carle. As we read the story we discussed what kind of house our crab would live in if we owned one. We talked about what we would put on our shells to make them the most beautiful.

They then were given a pre drawn hermit crab habitat (Well...I tried to pretend I was an artist for a second) to draw their hermit crab, food, decorations, etc.

I then presented the present to them. I covered our friend with a blanket since I do not have a Mystery Box... I asked them to close their eyes and guess what they thought might be in the box. We had guesses from a dog to a hat. i then gave them three clues. It lives on the land or in the ocean, it has a hard shell and it changes its' house when it grows too big. One child guessed that it was a crab. I then revealed the mystery. And it was a Hermit Crab (this little creature set me back $54.00) But it was worth it to see their faces!!! They decided on the name Sid.

I then introduced our new pet fish. I bought both, but could not wait to show the class the fish so it was not nearly as exciting as the Hermit Crab, but they did name her Lola!!

Meet the Teacher

Hey there...I am super excited about the Meet the Teacher. I just recently started a blog after so much time I spent getting to know everyone else. I became obsessed with reading teacher blogs. It is very addicting.
I have been teaching Pre-Kindergarten in Los Angeles California for the past seven years. Holy Cow!!! I love my job. I love my little ones. I was born and raised in the valley of Los Angeles, called the San Fernando Valley, and have never left. I swear that I will one day move to Chicago, but have not made it there yet. I work in a Catholic School, Saint Ferdinand, and it is my first year with this school. I have opened two Preschools for Elementary Schools as well.

Now for the Q & A

Q: What would you be doing if you weren’t a teacher?
A: If I was not a teacher...I honestly do not know. I would have to say I think I would like a job that involved travel.

Q: What are your hobbies?
A: Well, teaching is a hobby of mine. It sucks up most of my time. Everywhere I go I think about what I can use in my classroom. I also like to scrapbook, which I have put on the back burner.

Q: When you were little, what did you want to be when you grew up?
A: I always knew I was going to be a teacher. There was never a doubt as I spent many hours under our staircase, playing teacher with my dolls lined up at their desks.

Q: What are your guilty pleasures?
A: Oh cheese for sure. I can eat a block of cheese in a second. I also love ranch dressing. I can put ranch dressing on anything.

Q: What is your biggest fear?!
A: This one is simple Ink. I just can's handle having ink on my body. I can paint and get messy, but I need to wash it immediately after. Strange for a preschool teacher, but good for my mom and no tattoos!!

Q: When you’re on vacation, where do you like to go?
A: I love going to Chicago. I really try to get there as much as I can. I also LOVE LOVE LOVE Vegas. I LOVE it. Have I mentioned that?!!

Q: What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
A: Stay true to my heart. If you believe in something do not let others change your perception on things. Be honest.

Q: What do you value most in others?
A: I value honesty the most in people. If you are honest things always tend to work out much better than when not.

Q: If you could choose one of your personality traits to pass down to your kids, what would it be?
A: Umm...this is a hard one. I think I am funny with my students. I know that they leave each day with a happy story to tell about school and that is something that I really enjoy. They laugh at me and all my silly.

Q: If you could have lunch with anyone in the world….living or dead…who would it be?
A: I would have to say my mother. She is alive and she too is a Pre-Kindergarten Director, as myself. I do have lunch with her all the time, but I love to learn from her and get ideas and suggestions on how to be a better teacher. She is amazing. Celebrity wise, I would like to eat lunch with Sandra Bullock.

One random thing about myself...

I have had the pleasure of working on two movies. My father is a Construction Coordinator and has worked in the entertainment industry since he was 20 years old. He was kind enough to hire me to work on two movies he was working on; Million Dollar Baby and Gran Torino (name in the credits). It was fun and allowed me to travel to Europe for 6 weeks!! Thanks Dad!!

The shit I hear!!

So, today I was waiting for a child in the bathroom and she informed me that she once ate 100 pastas. I pretended to be amazed at the fact and told her that was cool and a lot of pastas to eat. She then proceeded to tell me that after that her poop was slimy and stinky. I have to say that I could not have lived without her telling me this. Dear God, at least I spend most of my day laughing. I am very blessed for that.

I have to admit, I did nothing at work today. We are celebrating Catholic Schools Week and we had clean the campus day, which took only 30 minutes, but I still feel like I taught my students nothing today. We literally played all day, and I have to say they and I both loved it. By far the best day this week. Even though it is only Tuesday, it feels like I have been at work for an entire week due to my new student. Today I asked him to throw his snack away and he threw it right out the door on the floor. I just stood there confused. He walked right past the trash can to throw it outside. He then proceeded to make it out the front gate and I literally had to grab him by his shirt. I felt terrible, but it was this or running in the street. I am asking for patience and strength until he understands the concept of school. I just hope I walk away a stronger, more patient teacher than I was at the beginning of the school year.
